Javascript is the original client-side (working on your computer) scripting language of the web. It is the language of choice or developers who wish to validate form fields, create pop-up windows, create animated effects like image roll-overs, and any number of common scripting tasks.
Importantly, Javascript is a key partner in the combination of tools known as DHTML. Microsoft has created a scripting language called JScript that is mostly Javascript but also has some hooks into the ASP programming environment.
For a sample of Javascript functionality, scroll over the top or left-side navigational buttons on this site.
Note: "Javascript" is unrelated to the programming language called "Java;" it's an unfortunate naming choice that they're so similar.
